A cat has nine lives. ETH at least a dozen

Manchester United were on the verge of another loss, at home to Brentford, but the second half changed everything. And the Dutch coach survives (2-1)

"If it means Ten Hag leaving..."

That was what our reporter Kevin Teya tweeted during the half-time break at Old Trafford on Saturday, as Manchester United were 1-0 down against Brentford. Erik ten Hag was clueless on the sidelines, watching his team's another woeful performance and maybe on the verge of sacking.

And we can't blame our colleague Teya for stating what the vast majority of United's fanbase probably thought at that moment. Alas, God obviously has other plans for ETH.

That Red Devils' lacklustre first-half performance saw Brentford breaking the deadlock through Pinnock, as Matthijs de Ligt was bleeding on the touchline following a collision with the rival.

A corner came in from the left and Pinnock rose well on the near post, heading it home against the ten-man defence. Furious Ten Hag was vocal and talked himself into a yellow card.

However, it seems he repeated some of that approach in the locker room during the interval since the United team, which returned after the break, was entirely different - sharp, confident and determined.

And it paid off almost instantly, as Garnacho levelled the score within the opening 90 seconds of the second half.

Marcus Rashford crossed it superbly to the back post for Garnacho, who hit a gorgeous volley past Brentford's keeper.

Some 15 minutes later, it was 2-1 for the hosts, with Bruno Fernandes assisting it spectacularly for Hojlund to seal the comeback.

Dallot and Rashford were close to wrapping up the game, but it stayed 2-1 on the scoreboard. Despite that, it was an excellent half from United, especially after that devastating start.

ETH lives to fight another day.
