2024 WAFCON Qualifiers: Who will be in charge of Harambee Starlets?

Kenya is set to face off with Cameroon in September in a two-legged clash in the first round

With less than a month to the start of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, it is unclear which coach will lead the Harambee Starlets in the first round when they take on Cameroon on 22 September.

This follows the resignation of coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor just six months since his appointment in the position according to a report by Nation's Nairobi News.

The former KCB assistant coach has since joined Nzoia Sugar and already guided the team to their first win of the new Football Kenya Federation Premier as they came from behind to down Ulinzi Stars 2-1.

“I won’t be with the team as the head coach ahead of the two-legged qualification round for the 2024 Africa Women Cup of Nations (WAFCON) next month. I stepped down because I have another assignment far away from the city. I want to switch my full focus to Nzoia Sugar. Handling the national team is a different ball game. This is a full-time job that requires full attention. Starlets will now have a new coach after I mutually agreed with the federation (to leave),” Oduor said as quoted by the publication.

He was appointed the tactician earlier this year but saw what would have been his first assignment with the team thwarted after the supposed friendly match against Albania which should have taken place in April was cancelled.

If Starlets edge Cameroon in the first round, they will take on the winner between Gabon and Botswana with the winner in the second round sealing a ticket to the main event set to be held in Morocco.

According to the publication, Kenya Police Bullets head coach Beldine Odemba could take over the women's side with former coach Charles Okere also linked with a return.
