The 2022-2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season is over for Nairobi City Stars midfielder Pius Omachi.
This is after the player underwent a left knee surgery on Tuesday at the Kijabe Hospital to repair both the Anterior Cruciate Ligaments and the meniscus.
The youngster has been battling recurring knee injuries that have limited his appearances in the season at the competitive level to a game.
He made his league bow on February 5 against Gor Mahia at the Kasarani Stadium, coming in the second half for Andrew Kisilu.
Omachi, joined Simba wa Nairobi in July last year from Division One Side Vapor Sports.
Scans and other tests conducted, exposed grave tears on his left knee ligaments that could only be repaired by the surgeon.
“I underwent surgery on Tuesday and was subsequently ruled out of action for five months,” he told Mozzart Sport.
The rain began beating the rookie in the pre-season when he picked up an injury while in training in Ngong’.
He recalls sliding into a tackle and feeling ‘something’ in the knee thereafter.
The physiotherapy sessions helped relieve the pain and recondition the knee but the pain, according to his narration kept on nagging and thus, delayed his league debut.
When it became apparent that the rehabilitation sessions were not bearing fruit, the scans revealed the worst.
“I will definitely come back stronger. I would have wished to play regularly in my first season in the top flight but the injury struck early in the pre-season,” he added.
