Kenya heads to the final day of action in third place.
Kenya can finally brag of having a 3000m medal at the World Under-20 Athletics Championships as Felix Kiptarus and Edwin Kimosong withstood stiff competition to deliver silver and bronze in lifetime-best performances.
The duo went into the 3000m men's final early Saturday morning with a weight of responsibility on their shoulders as Kenya had missed out on the podium last year in Nairobi when the distance made its debut for men in the junior championship.

In a blisteringly fast race, Ethiopia’s Melkeneh Azize who had gone into the final as one of the favourites, defended the title won by Tadese Worku in Nairobi last year, clocking 7:44.06 as the Kenyan duo filled the podium places.
In the heats, Kiptarus had stopped the clock at 7:58.12 in a much slower heat one while Kimosong clocked 7:55.60 to finish first in the second heat, a much faster one that produced all the non-automatic qualifiers.
The two made massive improvements Kiptarus clocking 7:47.86 while Kimosong timed 7:49.82 to deny 19-year-old Diriba Girma who was the quickest in the field this year via a 7:38.79 he ran indoors.
