
Strong Diamond League debut for Omanyala as he finishes fourth in Brussels

Former Olympic 800m silver medalist Niyonsaba heartbreaks pre-race favourite Obiri in the 5000m race
National 100m record holder Ferdinard Omanyala had a strong debut in the Diamond League after finishing fourth in the Brussels leg held at the Van Damme Memorial Stadium on Friday.
The speedstar recorded 10.02 seconds to finish fourth in the race won by Olympic silver medalist Fred Kerley of the United States who led his two of his compatriots to a clean sweep.
In the relatively slower race, Kerley clocked 9.94 while Bromell Trayvon was second in 9.97 seconds.Norman Michael finished third in 9.98.
While Omanyala strongly announced his arrival at the stage,Mary Moraa who was also making her first appearance finished last in the 800m.

The race was won by Goule Natoya of Jamaica who clocked 1:58.09 ahead of Hodgkinson Keely of Great Britain who recorded 1:58.16.Reekie Jemma was third while World champion Halima Nakaayi of Uganda faded to a seven place finish.
The 2016 Olympic Games 800m silver medalist Francine Niyonsaba ruled in the 5000m, setting a new national and a personal best of 14:25.34. The Burundian spared her energies for the last one hundred metres where she kicked hard to accelerate past the rest.
Former World U20 silver medalist Taye Ejgayehu of Ethiopia was second in 14:25.63 while World champion Hellen Obiri came in third after clocking a season best 14:26.23.
World silver medalist Margaret Kipkemboi finished fourth after timing a personal best of 14:27.12 ahead of Lilian Kasait who recorded a personal best of 14:30.32. Another Kenyan in Eva Cherono finished with a best of 14:30.37.

Abel Kipsang and Charles Simotwo finished outside the top three in the men's 1500m race won by Steward McSweyin of Australia. Kipsang was fourth on 3:34.48 while Simotwo came in fifth in 3:34.37
