Star-studded team selected for World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas

Meshack Babu of the Kenya Defence Forces, three-time Kenyan national sprint champion Mark Otieno, Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, Samuel Chege, 2015 national 100m champion Mike Mokamba will also represent the country in the competition.

The country's athletics governing body; Athletics Kenya (AK) has selected the team that will represent the country in the upcoming World Athletics Relays slated for March 4-5 at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.

In the 4 × 400m national 400 metres champion Zablon Ekwam, 2022 Commonwealth Games 4x400m relay bronze medalist Wiseman Were, 2017 fourth-place finisher for the mixed 4x400m relay in the World Youth Championships David Sanayek, National 400m champion Boniface Mweresa, Brian Tenega, Moitalel Nadokila, Kelvin Kipkorir, Nathaniel Kipngetich, and Kennedy Kimeu will fly the country's flag high.

In the 4 × 400m women's category, world 800m champion Mary Moraa, Mercy Chebet, Jackline Nanjala, Joan Cherono, Veronica Mutua, Vanice Kerubo, Maureen Thomas, Gladys Jepkemboi, and Diana Chebet made the cut for Team Kenya.

Speaking after the team's selection, Athletics Kenya (AK) President Jack Tuwei wished the selected athletes all the best, banking on them to qualify for the Olympics.

"For those who have been selected congratulations. We believe that you are going to qualify for the Olympics because that's the most important thing. I want to wish you well," he started.

The President asked them to emulate cross country team's performance to emerge victorious in the Bahamas challenge. The team will head to the camp in subsequent days to further sharpen their skills.


"We have given you the officials and we want to wish you well and anything that has the title world is not a simple thing. I hope now that you are going for the World relays, you will do equally well like the cross country team," Tuwei offered.
