
Sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala, five rugby stars headline sportmen passing out from police training

World 5000m Silver medalist Beatrice Chebet also passed out in the event presided over by President William Ruto.
Commonwealth 100m champion and Kenya’s sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala is among the 2881 constables who graduated on Tuesday from the National Police College in Kiganjo after successfully completing their nine months training course at the premier institution.
Back in December 2021, the sprinter, who is also Africa’s fastest man, accepted the offer to join the National Police Service (NPS) after a stellar 2021 season that saw him make his debut at the Olympics where he wrote history as the first Kenyan to compete in the 100m semis at the prestigious event.

Omanyala was then appointed as an inspector of the National Police Service subject to completion of the training course which would see him compete for NPS in track events.
According to NPS, the recruits finished the Basic Police Training Course and were exposed to a variety of courses such as Human Rights, Community Policing, Public Order Management, Skills at Arms, and Countering Violent Extremism.

“The training process has been tough and strenuous, both mentally and physically, but for all the recruits, the eve of the Passing out Parade will no doubt be a time of reflection and thanksgiving. We congratulate the Commandant, Instructors and College Staff for their dedication during the training, and all the recruits as they make the final "Eyes- Right" at NPC- Main Campus Kiganjo,” read a post from the NPS.

Omanyala and Chebet now join a group of outstanding athletes in the National Police Service that includes 800m world record holder David Rudisha, Joshua Kamworor, Vivian Cheruiyot, Julius Yego and the legendary Ezekiel Kemboi.
Elsewhere, five national team rugby players will also be passing out from the Administration Police Training College in Utawala on Wednesday.
The men;s national 7s team Shujaa have three players in Jeff Oluoch, Collins Shikoli and Levy Amunga while the women’s Lionesses has Christabel Lindo and Grace Adhiambo.
