The announcement was made during the Jamaica Tourist Board’s (JTB) 70th anniversary celebration at Devon House in Kingston.
This marked a strategic partnership between the island nation and one of its most globally recognised sons.
According to Jamaica's Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, the decision to partner with Bolt is a calculated effort to project Jamaica’s rich culture, resilient spirit, and athletic heritage to a global audience.
“Usain Bolt has been Jamaica’s unofficial ambassador for years through his extraordinary athletic achievements and magnetic personality. This appointment formalises what the world already knows.
His influence extends far beyond the track, and we’re excited to channel that power toward building our nation’s future,” Bartlett said.
Bolt’s new role comes with a high-impact agenda. He will serve as the central figure in a major global marketing campaign set to launch in August 2025, designed to amplify Jamaica’s position as a premier Caribbean destination.
The campaign will feature Bolt across digital, broadcast, and experiential platforms, showcasing the island’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and world-renowned hospitality.
Director of Tourism Donovan White hailed the partnership as a significant milestone in the modernisation of the JTB’s international outreach strategy.
“Usain Bolt is more than a sporting legend; he is a global icon whose roots are deeply embedded in Jamaican culture.
His influence and connection to the island make him the ideal ambassador to tell our story to the world,” White remarked.
Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist and world record holder in the 100m and 200m sprints, has long been a magnetic symbol of Jamaican excellence.
The Olympian’s first official duty in this new role will take place in New York this week, where he will headline celebrations for the JTB’s 70th anniversary.
