Kenya U20 national team goalkeeper coach Samwel Koko has explained why he left Bidco United for FKF Premier League debutants Nairobi United.
Koko is the latest addition to the Naibois technical bench and will replace former Harambee Stars goalkeeper Joseph Ruto.
The former KCB FC goalkeeper coach joins former Kenyan international Kevin Kimani ,who joined the team as the Strength and Conditioning coach, as well as Boniface Omondi and Sadique Ambami who joined as assistant coach and second assistant coach respectively.
In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, Koko disclosed the motivation behind joining the reigning Mozzart Bet Cup champions.
“Naibois is a good team that every coach would love to join. The success that they have achieved from National Super League to the top tier and to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage is admirable,” said Koko.
Koko, who was a goalkeeper at Zoo FC during his playing career, also took time to open up on his goals at the Johnson Sakaja-backed side.
“My aim with the team is to help us win another trophy by the end of the season-and once again grace continental football,” he stated.
Koko has coached several top teams and sharpened top goalkeepers including: Harambee Stars duo of Bryne Omondi and Faruk Shikhalo.
At Naibois, he will be reuniting with familiar faces in Ernest Mohamed, whom he worked with briefly at defunct Wazito FC, as well as Kevin Oduor and Benard Jairo who were part of the Rising Stars 2025 U20 AFCON squad.
“It is a great feeling and opportunity. It also makes it easier because they know my demands and what I expect from my goalkeepers. Working with them gives me an opportunity to make them even better goalkeepers,” he added.
At Bidco, Koko guided goalkeeper Issa Emuria to seven clean sheets, the joint top in the league despite the eam experiencing a bad run of results.
Naibois will begin the year with an away clash against Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, 5 November.
