This will mark the third time Eldoret City has hosted the prestigious championship, following successful events in 2019 at the Eldoret Sports Club and in 2022 at Lobo Village in Kapseret

The countdown is on for the National Cross-Country Championships set to take place on Saturday, 8 February, in Eldoret.

With over 500 athletes from across the country expected to compete, this event is shaping up to be one of the most exciting events of the year.

This will mark the third time Eldoret City has hosted the prestigious championship, following successful events in 2019 at the Eldoret Sports Club and in 2022 at Lobo Village in Kapseret.

Athletes from all corners of Kenya, including the Western, Nyanza North, Nyanza South, Central Rift, South Rift, North Rift, Nairobi, Southern, Coast, Central, North Eastern, and Eastern regions, have earned their place in this competition through regional championships.

In addition, national affiliates such as the Kenya Defense Forces, Kenya Police Service, universities, Kenya Prisons Service, National Youth Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, and Kenya Forest Service will also be represented.

In recognition of the athletes’ hard work and dedication, the prize money for the competition has been announced.

Winners in the senior men’s and women’s 10km races will each take home Ksh200,000, while the top junior men’s and women’s competitors will receive Ksh140,000.

The 2km loop winners will be awarded Ksh50,000, with prizes trickling down to the 10th place finisher, who will earn Ksh10,000 in each category.

The course itself will feature some slight changes, aimed at improving the challenge and experience for participants.

The race’s technical director Ibrahim Hussein noted that there have been improvements every year, including the addition of man-made hills.

The venue’s proximity to town is expected to make it easily accessible for spectators.

There is an improvement every year that helps us to have slight changes. The venue is close to town and very convenient, so many people will be able to come and watch,” Hussein told Mozzart Sport.

Event Director Kennedy Tanui confirmed that all athlete entries have been completed, with the entry deadline having closed on Tuesday night.

The event organizers are now finalizing the start list, and athletes are expected to begin arriving in Eldoret on Thursday evening.

Bib collection will take place on Friday, with each athlete required to personally pick up their bib, as per the competition rules.
