Paris Paralympics: What to expect from Team Kenya on Saturday

Two finals with Kenyan representation will provide opportunity for the nation's first medals

Team Kenya will today be going out in search of two gold medals in the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France after a slow start in the world tourney.

In Friday's events, Team Kenya’s captain Samuel Mushai was disqualified from the men's 5000m T11 finals for a lane infringement, while Julieta Lenuge Moipo suffered a round of 16 exit in the Para Taekwondo K44- 58kg.

The other Kenyan, Asiya Sururu could not manage an automatic spot in the PR1 Women's Single Sculls but made it to the repechage that will occur later today.

Today, Sururu will be the first one to compete. She will be competing in the Repechage 1 after finishing sixth in heat one

She will be up against Brazilian Dos Santos Claudia Cicero who is the heat’s favorite.

Others are French Benoit Nathalie, Ghiringhelli Claire of Switzerland, and Uzbekistan's Abdussattorova Mukhayo.

The first 2 two will qualify to final A, while the rest will proceed to final B.

At 1100 hrs, Sheila Wanyonyi will be taking to the field in her pursuit of gold in the women's Javelin Throw- F13 finals.

Wanyonyi will be competing against 11 other athletes from different countries who are also eying a gold medal on the same.

Wanyonyi has had a season best of 30.69 and will be up against many other established players, especially Zhao Yuping of China who has had a personal best of 46 and 44.86 for this season.

Another gold to compete for is in the Men's 5000m- T13 finals.

In this category Kenya’s Joseph Lokedi will be up against his counterparts from other countries in search of gold.

Lokedi who has had a season best of 14:57.72 will be up against others with better stats.

Tunisia’s Aloui Bilel has the Paralympic record of 14:33.33 that was set at Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Will Kenya get her first gold? It's a matter of wait and see.
