No miracles were expected from Team Kenya's quartet racing in the 4x400m mixed relay in Paris as that has not become a fortress for the country yet.
Up against some of the best sprinters in the world, the quartet of David Sanayek, Veronica Mutua, Boniface Mweresa and Mercy Chebet held their own to finish ahead of Bahamas in heat one of the Relays on Friday 2 August.
The team clocked 3:13.13.

To put their brave performance into perspective, Team USA made history in the same race, breaking the world record.
The quartet of Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bryce Deadmon and Kaylyn Brown won by over three seconds in their heat and set a world record of 3:07.41. The previous world record was 3:08.30.
Norwood put the US team into an early lead, then Little extended it on the second leg. Deadmon opened up a significant gap on the chasing pack on leg three, then Brown anchored them to a clear victory, crossing the line more than three seconds ahead of France, who set a national record of 3:10.60.
Belgium was third in 3:10.74, also a national record.
