The morning session will kick off with the women's 1500m heats and the men's javelin qualification

Following the drama on Monday night, where Kenya finally won its first three medals at the Paris 2024 Games, more accolades could be in store as the nation braces itself for two big finals in Tuesday’s evening session.

Headlining the gold-medal events will be the men’s 1500m and women’s 3000m steeplechase finals, where Kenya will harbor realistic chances of adding up to their three medals won on Monday.

Prior to that, two Team Kenya qualifying events will dominate the morning session, with all eyes on Faith Kipyegon as she begins her quest for a women’s 1500m Olympics three-peat in the Round Heats scheduled to kick off at 11:05 AM.

Alongside her in the three heats, where the top six in each will automatically qualify for the semifinal, will be Kenya’s duo of Susan Ejore and Nelly Chepchirchir.

Kipyegon will also be seeking to kick-start her journey toward her second medal at this year’s games, following the reinstatement of a sensational silver medal in the women’s 5000m final on Monday night.

Javelin star Julius Yego will also be in action in the morning session when he takes part in the throw qualification beginning at 11:20 AM.

Yego, at his fourth Olympic Games, will be in Group A, and will hope to hit what will be a season-best 84.00m to advance to the finals.

Yego’s season-best performance this year came in a second-place finish at the African Games in Accra, where he threw 81.74m.

1500m Final

Kenya’s first opportunity of bagging a medal on Tuesday will come in the men’s 1500m final, where Tokyo Games silver medalist Timothy Cheruiyot will be flanked by rookie Brian Komen in a race towards reclaiming a title last won by Kenya in 2008.

The pair guaranteed their spots in the final after finishing fifth and fourth respectively, and will be up against big favorites in defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Team GB’s Josh Kerr.

The final starts at 9:50 PM.

3000m Steeplechase Final

The last event for Team Kenya on Tuesday will also carry hopes for a medal as world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech leads the charge for her first Olympic Games podium finish at 10:14 PM.

Chepkoech, who is in her third Olympic Games, will be alongside youngster Faith Cherotich, going for what many hope will be a first victory at the event since its introduction in 2008.

In their way, however, will be defending champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda, reigning world champion Winfred Yavi, and Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan.

Where to watch?

All athletics action will be aired live by state broadcaster KBC TV, and also available on Supersport dedicated channels on DSTV.
