Mo Farah explores athletics collaboration with Kenyan government

Sir Mo and his team expressed eagerness to explore potential areas of collaboration that would contribute to uplifting Kenyan runners

British long-distance runner and multiple champion, Mo Farah, paid a courtesy call to Eng. Peter Tum, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Sports, yesterday.

They discussed potential collaborations and partnerships in athletics and talent development between Sir Mo and the Kenyan government.

Tum assured Farah of the ministry's readiness to partner with and support initiatives aimed at unearthing raw talents, in line with the flagship Talanta Hela initiative, whose focus is to identify, nurture, and monetize talents across various fields, including athletics.

On his part, Mo and his team expressed eagerness to explore potential areas of collaboration that would contribute to uplifting Kenyan runners. He acknowledged the abundance of talent in East Africa, particularly in Kenya, and emphasized the importance of harnessing these talents to achieve success on the global stage.


The meeting was attended by, among others, the Athletics Kenya President and Vice President of World Athletics, Gen. Rtd. Jackson Tuwei, AK Youth Development Director, Mr. Barnaba Korir, and a host of legendary Kenyan runners, including Catherine Ndereba, Douglas Wakiihuri, Milka Chemos, and Moses Tanui, as well as Mary Moraa, the Kisii Express and 800-meter world champion.

The meeting signified a promising partnership between Mo Farah and the Kenyan Government, emphasizing a mutual dedication to supporting and empowering athletes in Kenya and other regions.

Earlier, Farah had met President William Ruto at Statehouse Nairobi.
