The winner will be announced in December

Two-time Olympic and world 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has not made the final list of nominees for the Women’s World Athlete of the Year.

The 28-year-old had made the initial list following her exploits in the concluded season that saw her win her second world title in 1500m and defend her Diamond League (DL) trophy in Zurich.

The back-to-back Olympic champion ran a world-leading Kenyan record of 3:50.37, just three-tenths of a second off the world record at the Monaco Diamond League where she had set her sight on breaking the record held by Genzebe Dibaba.

Nigeria's Tobi Amusan, Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kimberly Garcia of Peru, American Sydney McLaughlin, and Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas are the five athletes named in the final list.

Following her stunning performance in Oregon where she broke the 100m hurdles record after clocking 12.12 seconds, Nigeria's Amusan is the only African athlete to make the final list of five. She also won the Diamond League, Commonwealth and African 100m hurdles titles.

‘Mommy rocket’, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the world 100m title, claiming a fifth gold medal in the event. She won the DL title which was a crowning moment to a season that saw her run a world-leading 10.62 among her record seven sub-10.70 100m races of the season.

Chase Ealey of the USA, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson, Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine, and Shaunae Miller-Uibo of Bahamas are the other athletes who did not make the final list.
