
Kipruto wins Tokyo Marathon as Eliud Kipchoge records worst-ever finish

Kipchoge finished in the tenth position.
Kenya's Benson Kipruto emerged victorious in The Tokyo Marathon, a grueling race held in the early hours of Sunday morning, setting a new course record with an impressive time of 2:02:16. He led the pack, leaving his compatriots Timothy Kiplagat (2:02:55) and Vincent Ngetich (2:04:18) trailing behind.
The result moved the 2022 Chicago Marathon winner up to fifth on the marathon all time-list with.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge faced a setback in his bid for a third consecutive Olympic gold at the upcoming Paris Games, as he finished 10th – his poorest marathon performance to date.
Despite initially running with the lead pack, the 39-year-old athlete experienced a significant decline around the 20-kilometer mark, ultimately crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 50 seconds.
On the women's side, Ethiopia's Sutume Asefa Kebede clinched the title, crossing the finish line in 2:15:55. She outpaced Kenya's defending champion Rosemary Wanjiru (2:16:14) and Ethiopia's world champion Amane Beriso Shankule (2:16:58) to claim the victory.
