Kamworor is entered for the men’s ten kilometre race and will be hoping to follow in the distinguished footsteps of fellow Kenyans such as Eliud Kipchoge, Mike Kigen and Leonard Komen, all of whom have tasted victory at the historic Madrid event.
The race comes two months after a disappointing outing at the Chicago Marathon, where Kamworor clocked 2:05:31 to finish seventh in a race that did not unfold as he had planned.
The Spanish assignment therefore offers an opportunity for redemption and a chance to end the year with renewed confidence.
It also presents a chance for the two time New York Marathon champion to secure his fourth podium finish of the year.
Kamworor has enjoyed a largely productive 2025 campaign, highlighted by victory at the Rotterdam Marathon in April where he ran 2:04:33, as well as a commanding performance at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in August, clocking 59:51.
Earlier in the season, Kamworor finished second at the Barcelona Half Marathon in February after stopping the clock at 58:44.
Elsewhere in Europe, Kenyan youngster Charles Rotich will also usher in the New Year on the road when he competes in the BOclassic ten kilometre race in Bolzano, Italy.
The twenty year old continues to build his profile on the international circuit as he gains experience against seasoned competition.
Rotich’s most recent outing was at the Al Sharqiyah Half Marathon in Saudi Arabia on 13 December, where he finished eighth after clocking 1:01:39.
He now returns to Bolzano, a venue that holds positive memories for him.
The young Kenyan made his debut at the race last year, clocking 28:08 to finish third in a performance that announced his arrival on the big stage.
This time, he will face a stern test against defending champion Telahun Haile Bekele and compatriot Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia, among a deep field of elite runners.
