Ewoi, 29, made the headlines at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, when she lowered her personal best by 4.33 seconds to win silver in the 1500m finals, timing 3:54.92.

Her breakout performance, which came on her Team Kenya debut in September, has now seen her level rise, and she will now aim to become the first Kenyan woman to win the Wanamaker Mile at next year’s event, which will be the second stop in the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold calendar.

The Kenyan, as per a Tuesday, 2 December announcement, will be joined by a studded list of names in the one mile discipline, namely: Jess Hull, Elle St. Pierre, Nikki Hiltz and Sinclaire Johnson.

While Ewoi, whose personal best in the distance is a 4:19.71 set in August 2024, will be taking part in her Millrose Games debut, the rest of the aforementioned names are fairly experienced.

St. Pierre, a two-time Olympic finalist, will be chasing her fourth title in the event, having won in 2020, 2022, and 2024.

Hull, who finished behind Ewoi at the World Championships to win 1500m bronze, finished second in the mile in 2024, and was fourth in the 3000m in 2025.

U.S. Indoor Champion Hiltz, meanwhile, finished third in last year’s event, with former US Champion Johnson holding the title of being the American record holder in the outdoor mile.

Since the women’s Wanamaker Mile event began in 1982, no Kenyan woman has emerged champion, with the latest to go close being Susan Ejore, who took bronze in 2024, clocking 4:20.61 behind St. Pierre and Hull.

Other names announced for the 118th Millrose Games include: double Olympic bronze medalist Grant Fisher, and Olympic 1500m champion and 5000m World champion Cole Hocker, who will all compete in the Burgess Family Foundation men’s two mile.
