Chebet has carried her 2024 form to this season, kicking off her campaign with a 5000m 14:27.12 world lead in Xiamen, before heading to the African meet, promising to attack her personal best (PB).

She scales up to her specialty, 5000m, in Rome, as she continues the chase for a successful DL title defense while also preparing for this Tokyo World Championship set for held from 13 to 21 September 2025 in Japan.

"The plan is to keep running well with eyes on the World Championships. I have not won a world title and that is the ultimate prize for this season," said the 25-year-old who won silver in 2022 and finished third in 2023.

In 2024, the Kenyan distance star conquered the world on multiple occasions, winning Olympic gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m, breaking the 10-kilometre world record at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Eugene and securing her second Diamond Trophy at the series final in Brussels.

In Rome, she faces one of her closest competitors in the Paris Games, home girl Nadia Battocletti. The Olympic silver medalist in Paris in the 10,000m will be racing infront of a crowd that adores her.

Also on the field is world record holder in the 5000m, Gudaf Tsegay, who will be joined by compatriots Freweyni Hailu and Likina Amebaw, all expected to make the race more unpredictable.

If their most recent meeting is anything to go by, Chebet remains the favourite. The duo battles in Rabat, the Italian finishing in a national record time of 8:26.27, in a race Chebet came six seconds shy of a world-record time of 8:06.11.
