The continental championships will be held from 8 to12 June in Côte d'Or National Sports Complex in the city of Reduit, Mauritius.
Former World Under-20 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet and her National Police Service (NPS) teammate Caroline Nyaga have punched tickets to the Senior African Athletics Championships.
The duo, competing in 5000m women clocked 15:30.20 and 15:32.20 to pick gold and silver at the ongoing Athletics Kenya (AK) national championship that doubles as trials for the continental event.
Chebet assumed the lead after three laps and held on for the better part of the race, as Nyaga and Neptune Jepleting of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) hang on her shoulders.
With three laps to go, Jepleting was briefly on the lead, taking the bell ahead but the eventual winner steppes on it with 350m left as she went to pick a comfortable victory.

"I had a good race but winning was unexpected. I just joined police training and I have not been keeping to my normal schedule and i have not rested well as i have other police related activities.
I have tested myself in this race and I feel that I am in a good place in terms of fitness and endurance. However, I have to work on my speed from here on as I prepare to represent my country," offered Chebet.
The 22-year who has an Under-20 and Cross country title to her name says she is targeting the African title.
"I know NPS will give me the chance to prepare myself well for all the upcoming championships and get the medals for the country.

Getting this ticket to represent my country means alot to me. I have yo keep the tradition of Kenyans winning alive and I have gotten alot of support from Hellen Obiri who has ruled the track in this distance before moving to the marathon," added Chebet.
Nyaga, on her part, heads to Mauritius with a debt to self as she wants to improve on her performance on the continental stage.
"This was a tough race for me as this was my first time to compete at the nationals in 5000m. I competed in 10000m in 2019 and made the African team to Morocco where I finished fifth.
I am now experienced and I feel ready to get a medal for Kenya. My preparations have been good. Winning the police cross country championship came as a surprise buy served to motivate me ahead of the national event," Nyaga offered.
