The African record holder will have the company of his compatriot Samwel Imeta who finished fourth in the first leg.

After missing out on the sub 10 seconds in the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix 1 held last week, Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala is seeking to achieve it in the second leg of the series to be held on Wednesday 19 April at the Germiston Stadium.

The race, is expected to gun off at 7:30 pm East African Time.

Omanyala won the first leg after clocking 10.12 seconds in the first leg held at the Tuks Athletics Stadium a week ago.

Despite winning the first leg of the series in a rather comfortable manner, Omanyala conceded that the time posted fell way short of his expectations.

So, can he dip under the sub ten seconds mark tonight? This is the biggest question lingering in the mind of every other athletics enthusiast hours to the race.

The national champion has also posed a similar question to his followers on Twitter and even offered to reward anyone who will guess right the time he will post.

What time do you think I will run today? Correct prediction wins a gift hamper,” he wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

Once again, Omanyala will have the company of his compatriot Samwel Imeta who finished fourth in the first leg.

Imeta is chasing qualification time for the World Athletics Championships set for between August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) runner thought that he had met the qualification time during the second leg of the Athletics Kenya Track and Field meeting held in February after clocking 9.94 seconds but the time was not ratified.

I hope to hit sub ten seconds tonight. Even if I don’t make it today, there is still time for me to qualify,” he told Mozzart Sport.

National 400m hurdles champion Wiseman Were will be seeking to seal yet another win in South African soil. He won the first leg after timing 49.23 seconds.

Meanwhile, Boniface Mweresa will also compete in the 400m as he seeks to go under 45 seconds in the one-lap race.

"If I was lining up for 100m or 200m I would predict the time as I have competed in several races in the said distances. However, this is my first 400m of the season and I am hoping to do well. I am using this race as part of my build up for the World Championships as well as the Continental Tour races coming up," offered Mweresa who is part of Kenya's contingent to Botswana's Tour where he is set to compete in the 4x400m relay.
