National cross country championships set for 21 January at Kenya Prisons Training College- Ruiru.

As Athletics Kenya (AK) 2023 season begins, it will be a busy first weekend of the year as all the federation's affiliates hold their respective cross country championships.

Action begins on Friday with Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and National Police Service (NPS) hold their events at Ulinzi Complex and Ngong Racecourse respectively.

The two events will be followed by competitions for the National Youth Service (NYS) at Racecourse, Universities cross country at Kabarak University and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) at Lobo Village in Eldoret on Saturday 7 January.

AK has also directed that all the regional championships be done by 7 January as the team's selected from the said competitions will clash in the national cross country championships set for 21 January at Kenya Prisons Training College- Ruiru.

The national event was set to double up as the trials for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships but AK was forced to hold a separate event in December due to Visa restrictions to Australia for the global showpiece.

With Team Kenya to Bathurst for the global competition set for 18 February already in place, these athletes will have one more local event to prepare when Kenya hosts its leg of the cross country tour, gold meeting.

Named Agnes Tirop Memorial in its first edition, the gold tour meeting has since been renamed to Sirikwa Classic and is set for 4 February at Lobo Village in Eldoret.
