At just 17, the Queensland teenager has been named on Forbes Australia’s 30 Under 30 list, a milestone that neither Usain Bolt nor Noah Lyles managed at his age.
For context, Bolt only appeared on the Forbes list in 2012 when he was 26, while Lyles earned his spot in 2023 at 25. Gout has achieved the honour while still in his teens.
Gout’s rise has been nothing short of electric.
Earlier this year, while preparing for the World Athletics Championships, he clocked an eye-catching 9.94 seconds over 100m at a schoolboy meet in Queensland.
Though hand-timed and unofficial, the run still stood as his season best and sent a strong message about what is to come.
To illustrate the magnitude, Noah Lyles’ own season best came at the World Championships, a 9.89s run that won him the 100m world title.
This explosive form came on the back of the moment that introduced Gout to the world; his jaw-dropping 20.04s victory in the 200m at the Australian All Schools Championships when he was just 16.
That performance obliterated a 56-year-old national record and thrust the teenager into the global spotlight.
Now 17, Gout has continued to punch above his age at the World Senior Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where he reached the 200m semifinals against the planet’s fastest men.
His range across sprint events also remains impressive. Just recently, he closed his junior career at the GPS Track and Field Championships in Brisbane with a personal best of 46.14 in the 400m.
His meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed. Bolt, Lyles, and other sprint heavyweights have publicly hailed his potential, with many in the athletics world seeing him as the next major global star.
For a teenager balancing school, elite-level competition, and now global recognition, Gout has shown remarkable composure and maturity.
The Forbes 30 Under 30 list is one of the world’s most influential recognitions for young achievers.
Compiled annually, it highlights 30 outstanding individuals under the age of 30 who are making significant strides in their fields, whether in sports, entertainment, technology, innovation, business leadership, or social impact.
