The two-day competition, was meant to select a team that would represent the nation at the World Athletics Indoor Championships scheduled for Friday, 20 to Sunday, 22 March in Poland.

AK has instead opted to handle the selection through a time-based and merit-based selection process which will be done after the World Athletics qualification period officially closes on Sunday, 8 March.

"Athletes are advised to continue training and preparing for upcoming competitions listed on the Athletics Kenya calendar as the federation continues to monitor performances during the qualification period. Any further updates regarding the World Athletics Indoor Championships and selection of the team will be communicated in due course," AK's statement reads in part.

The selection will name a team for the 60m men, 60m hurdles women, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000 men and women.

World Athletics officially released the qualification system and entry standards last year with sprint entry marks standing at 7.20 seconds for women and 6.59 for men in the 60m.

‎Other standards include 51.75/45.80 in the 400m, 2:00.90/1:45.80 in the 800m, 4:06.00/3:36.00 in the 1,500m, 8:35.00/7:33.00 in the 3,000m and 8.02/7.65 in the 60m hurdles (women/men).

‎Field event benchmarks include 1.96m/2.30m in the high jump, 4.70m/5.90m in the pole vault, 6.75m/8.17m in the long jump, 14.15m/16.90m in the triple jump and 18.90m/21.20m in the shot put.
