Despite finishing second at the national trials, Alamisi has limited expectations heading into his first senior assignment, citing insufficient preparation time due to his ongoing training at Kiganjo Police Training College.
“I have been at the Kiganjo Police Training College, so I haven’t had enough time to train. But even when I get just an hour, I make the most of it, and that is what I relied on during the trials. I thank God for that,” the youngster said.
His path to qualification showcased both resilience and efficiency.
He clocked 14:05.4 to finish third in the semifinals before improving to 13:34.30 in the final, securing second place and a ticket to Ghana.
The championships will mark a significant step up for the youngster, who has built a reputation for consistency at the junior level.
"Since joining the Kenya team, I have never missed a medal. This will be my first time competing at the senior level, so when I report to camp, I will assess my body and see how it responds,” he offered.
Alamisi acknowledged that his performance in Ghana will largely depend on the national camp training, as he has had limited time to prepare while at Kiganjo.
“All my performances in major races this season will depend on the training I get in camp, because I haven’t had enough time to prepare while at Kiganjo,” he added.
His final U20 race was on Saturday, 10 January at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, USA, where he narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in 23:28.
Franklin Kibet won the race in 23:18.
