
ADAK hands two-year bans to Gloria Kite Chebiwott and Stellah Barsosio for doping offenses

The Anti Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), whose mandate is to protect athletes’ fundamental rights to participate in a doping-free sport in the country, has handed two-year bans to Gloria Kite Chebiwott and Stellah Barsosio for doping offenses.
In the announcement made on Monday afternoon, Chebiwott was handed the ban after presence of prohibited substances Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS), which is a breach of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, was found in her sample collected for testing back in May 2022.

“The Tribunal notes that there’s no dispute between the Athlete and the Applicant that a prohibited substance S1.1. Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS)/Androsterone, Adiols, Pregnanediol, 11-ketoetiocholanolone, Etiocholanolone (Etio), testosterone, 5a-androstanediol and 15 epitestosterone was present in the Athlete’s body and thus resulting in an AAF,” the ruling read.
The 25-year-old who was also the silver medalist at the 2019 10K Valencia Ibercaja, has her two years ban back dated and will commence from 12th August 2022 to 12th August 2024.
“Consequently and the discussion on merits of this case, the Tribunal Imposes the following consequences: a) The period of ineligibility (non-participation in both local and international events) for the Respondent Athlete shall be for two (2) years from the date of mandatory provisional suspension that is with effect from 12th August, 2022,” they ruled.
On the other hand, former NN Marathon Rotterdam champion Barsosio was banned for Presence of prohibited substances trimetazidine in her collected sample.
“Hormone and Metabolic Modulators/Trimetazidine which is prohibited under S4 of the 2022 WADA prohibited list was found in the Respondent’s urine samples. This is a non-specified substance and is prohibited at all times as per WADA Prohibited List of 2022.
The period of ineligibility (non-participation in both local and international events) for the Respondent shall be for 2 years from the date of mandatory provisional suspension that is 17/08/2022,” her ruling read.

Barsosio, who has five marathon wins under her name, has her ban back dated as it will commence from 17th August 2022 to 16th August 2024.
